Michael focuses his practice on construction law and litigation. Michael’s client representations range from casinos and ENR Top 400 contractors to design firms and subcontractors. He has handled cases involving coastal bridges, high-rise hotels and casinos, shopping malls, mixed use developments, subdivisions and highways. He has experience with claims involving delay costs, differing site conditions, defective plans and specifications, change order disputes, terminations and lost production. Michael has represented clients in court or in ADR proceedings in Alabama, California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Nevada, North Carolina, and elsewhere. He also writes, reviews and negotiates contracts for owners, designers and contractors, often for projects exceeding $100 million. Michael has advised clients from most U.S. states, the Republic of Ireland, and Switzerland.
Prior to pursuing his legal career, Michael was a research engineer for the Kentucky Transportation Center (formerly the research division of the Kentucky Department of Transportation), where he gained experience with highway construction materials and pavement drainage systems, along with pavement life monitoring, bridge stability testing and alternative pavement systems. He holds a B.S. in civil engineering in addition to his law degree.
Michael is a published authority on construction law topics, as well as a former assistant adjunct professor for the construction Law course at Southern Polytechnic State University.
