Biography

Mr. Murphy has over 30 years of trial experience in the state and federal courts around the country. He focuses on the defense of products liability, mass tort, class action, and catastrophic injury/death cases, and he is a lecturer/presenter on various aspects of his practice areas, including trial practice techniques. Mr. Murphy has tried countless cases before judges and juries and has the experience that enables him to anticipate the way the evidence will play out at trial. He also sits as an arbitrator and mediator and is very effective as a litigant in these settings. Mr. Murphy began his career as a Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney under future Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell. His judgment and trial skills led to his assignment to the “Career Criminal Unit,” where his supervisor was Ronald Castille, who became Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Mr. Murphy has achieved successful results for a wide range of clients in a variety of matters, including, in just one two-year period:

  • Successfully defending a multimillion-dollar drilling claim against a hydraulic fracturing company in the Marcellus Shale region of Pennsylvania
  • Securing summary judgment in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of a New Jersey crane manufacturer in a workplace fatality case where a suspended load fell and struck a worker
  • Securing the dismissal of a propane company in a North Carolina residential carbon monoxide death case
  • Securing the dismissal of his gas company client in an electrocution death case filed in both Alabama and Minnesota
  • Securing several dismissals of individual cases in a prescription pharmaceutical mass tort in New Jersey
  • Securing summary judgment on behalf of a nutritional supplement company in an industrial accident matter in New Jersey
  • Securing the dismissal of the distributor of an over-the-counter aerosol product in a serious burn disfigurement case in Philadelphia
  • Securing the dismissal of a food product distributor in dozens of e-coli cases in the Northeast
