Rio Piedros Explosion Litigation

An explosion occurred in 1996 in a six-story commercial building in Rio Piedros, San Juan, Puerto Rico causing 33 deaths, numerous injuries and extensive property damage with ensuing business interruption. The lawsuits that followed included 1400 plaintiffs with claims asserted against the local gas company, its parent and related corporate entities, the telephone company, the sewer authority and others.
