The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has awarded Frost Brown Todd (FBT) Managing Associate Eric Volz the 2018 Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Volz is recognized for exhibiting professional excellence in engineering and law, leadership in the performing arts, and an enduring commitment to the future of Rose-Hulman.
Volz is a patent attorney and works closely with inventors and business leaders in a wide variety of industries to acquire, defend and leverage intellectual property assets. He also advises clients with respect to patentability and freedom to practice opinions in order to provide a greater understanding of a product, its marketplace, and the various risks associated with market entry. He actively supports the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem through his role as president of Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Association (CincyIP) and as counsel for several local startups and small businesses. He is also frequently featured as speaker on intellectual property topics at Miami University, the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University, among others.
Volz was selected for inclusion in the 2018 edition of Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Stars® and was awarded FBT’s “Mentor of the Year” award in 2017. He has served on the founding leadership team and multiple terms on the board of directors for the Young Professionals Choral Collective, a choir with a roster of more than 1,000 members throughout Greater Cincinnati that serves to create connections between young professionals, the business community and arts organizations. Volz earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Rose-Hulman in 2007 and his J.D. at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2011.
