2008 – We defended a large trucking company after a newly-hired driver went through an intersection at high speed after failing to see a red light. The tractor trailer struck three other vehicles. We settled the claims of four claimants, but a lady with numerous abdominal, orthopedic and brain injuries refused our pre-trial settlement offer. We succeeded in having punitive damages and negligent hiring claims dismissed before trial. After a one week federal trial in which liability was not contested, the jury returned a verdict far less than our settlement offer.
