Effective January 1, 2018, the Ohio minimum wage will increase to $8.30 per hour for non-tipped employees or $4.15 per hour for tipped employees. The new minimum wage will apply to businesses with more than $305,000 in gross annual receipts. Companies with $305,000 or less in gross annual receipts must follow the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour for non-tipped employees or $2.13 per hour for tipped employees.
Currently, the Ohio non-tipped minimum wage is $8.15 per hour, and the tipped minimum wage is $4.08 per hour. The current minimum wage applies to businesses with more than $299,000 in gross annual receipts.
The Ohio Department of Commerce announced the increased minimum wage pursuant to a provision in the Ohio Constitution which requires the minimum wage to increase each year by the rate of inflation.
Along with the increased minimum wages, the Ohio Department of Commerce has released a new Minimum Wage Poster for employers to display in their places of business beginning January 1. A copy of the poster can be found here.
