Mary Claire joined Frost Brown Todd with nearly 13 years of experience with the federal courts. For ten years she served as a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit – one year with the Hon. Robert B. King as a term clerk and nine years with the Hon. Stephanie D. Thacker as a career law clerk. In those capacities, she has worked on approximately 175 federal appeals.
Mary Claire served as a law clerk for the Hon. Joseph R. Goodwin of the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, where she gained experience with trial-level litigation. She also served as Southern District’s first Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Supervising Attorney, a newly created position in which she revamped the District’s CJA program and supervised approximately 25 attorneys to ensure quality representation to indigent defendants.
Mary Claire also serves as an adjunct lecturer at the West Virginia University College of Law, where she teaches Appellate Advocacy. Her unique experience provides invaluable insight into the litigation process from start to finish, with a special emphasis on appeals.
Mary Claire lives in Charleston with her husband Matt and three sons.
